Stainless Steel Kitchen Sinks – Four Things You Must Know Before Buying a Stainless Steel Sink

I was recently approached with a question about stainless steel sinks. A customer of mine searched online for a 33″ stainless steel sink. The results ranged from $ 98.00 to $ 1,700.00 so of course the question came up about what the difference was. So was born the four things you must know before buying a stainless steel sink.

Start with the gauge of the sink. The gauge is the thickness of the steel, the smaller the number the thicker the steel. Most kitchen sink manufacturers produce stainless steel sinks from 22 gauge to 16 gauge. The thicker steel will cost you more all things being equal. The reason you might want a thicker steel sink is it is more resistant to dents.

Next you’ll want to know what type of sound insulation is used on the sink. The sound insulation serves one purpose, to reduce or eliminate the ringing that follows after you toss something into the sink.

With out any sound insulation your sink will sound like a bell. The most common type is a sprayed textured coating on the back side of the sink. You may also see a sound dampening pad under the spray coating; this is a very effective sound deadening combination. You can hit this type of sink with a hammer and hear little more than a thud. Both types are fine, just be sure you have some form of sound insulation.

One of the least considered aspects of a sink is the grade of stainless steel. Like most metals, stainless steel is broken up into many different grades with different properties. In my research I have found that most stainless steel sinks are one of four grades, 201, 301, 302, 304. A grade 201 sink is most often seen in the big home improvement stores on the lowest end of the price scale.

As of this writing I have found them as low as $ 90.00 for a 33″ undermount. Grade 302 is most often used for utensils. As you progress into the higher grades, the steel becomes more corrosion, oxidation, and rust resistant. The sinks ability to stay shiny and new is what this comes down to. I would suggest purchasing a sink made of 302 or 304 stainless steel.

Finally we come to design, of course, this is where most of us would start our search for a new sink, but I’ve left this for last because it will affect the price of the sink more than any other single aspect we’ve covered. Looking at sink design today you can’t help but be amazed at the creativity and innovation that exists. The only real advice I can give concerning design is be sure your counter top fabricator can cut the shape of the sink and that your plumber is aware of the type of installation before the counter top is installed.

Commercial Stainless Steel Sinks Maintain Clean Kitchens

Any organization that invests in commercial stainless steel sinks can expect to save money on future replacements. Stainless steel ranks among one of the most durable substances in the world. While it is not indestructible, it will certainly hold up better than other materials over the course of many years of usage.

Stainless steel is a non porous substance that will not absorb water. This makes it resistant to corrosion even if water beads on its surface. Rust removal will never be a concern, so this eliminates possible overtime costs of asking cleaning crews to devote additional man hours to get a vital part of the kitchen back up and running.

Because stainless steel is also easy to clean, it also helps daily maintenance costs down. A dirty sink made from an inferior material can slow a cleaning crew down considerably. When added to the man hours required for cleaning other areas of the kitchen, needless costs can accrue incrementally over time.

Commercial stainless steel sinks offer the additional advantage of being highly sanitary. This accounts for their dominant presence in facilities where health considerations rank high on the priority list.

Again, the non porous nature of the material accounts for this. Bacteria cannot build up on the surface of the sink, nor can mold or mildew.

This is the main reason that medical facilities use stainless steel for any task that requires the highest possible hygienic standards. Surgeons use these sinks to wash their hands before surgery.

Patient rooms and lab restrooms use these sinks as well. By providing patients with the cleanest possible place to wash their hands, the possibility of staff infection is minimized.

Public school kitchens also use commercial stainless steel sinks for food preparation. The foremost reason for this is the obvious need to minimize the spread of illness among large student populations.

Hygienic concerns here are almost as high as they are in the health care industry, and the younger the students are, the more sensitive districts must be to disease control.

There is an economic benefit attached to these sinks as well. Many can be customized with multiple accessories to make the food preparation area very compact and efficient for school food services employees. Some sink models are designed for multiple users in order to save space in smaller schools with limited kitchen space.

A restaurant of any size should invest the money in a commercial stainless steel sink because it is going to pay for itself in the long run.

A sink made from an inferior grade material that is not as hygienic can bring a health code violation down on a family restaurant that can destroy its reputation in a matter of days. A dirty sink is not worth what it can cost a small cafe in the end.

Larger restaurants with high traffic and even higher expectations need multi user commercial stainless steel sinks featuring up to 8 individual stations connected side by side. This allows staff to wash cookware, utensils, and dishes simultaneously in the cleanest environment possible without missing a step in the preparation of new orders.

Martensitic stainless steel pipe

A martensitic stainless steel pipe having a heat-affected zone with high resistance to intergranular stress corrosion cracking is provided. In particular, the martensitic stainless steel pipe contains less than 0.0100% of C; less than 0.0100% of N; 10% to 14% of Cr; and 3% to 8% of Ni on a mass basis.

Alternatively, the martensitic stainless steel pipe may further contain Si, Mn, P, S, and Al within an appropriate content range. The martensitic stainless steel pipe may further contain one or more selected from the group consisting of 4% or less of Cu, 4% or less of Co, 4% or less of Mo, and 4% or less of W and one or more selected from the group consisting of 0.15% or less of Ti, 0.10% or less of Nb, 0.10% or less of V, 0.10% or less of Zr, 0.20% or less of Hf, and 0.20% or less of Ta on a mass basis.

In recent years, in order to cope with a high increase in the price of crude oil and in order to guard against the depletion of oil resources that may occur in near future, the following wells have been extensively developed worldwide: deep oil wells that have not attracted much attention and sour gas wells which are highly corrosive and of which the development has therefore been abandoned once. Steel pipes used for such oil wells and gas wells must have high corrosion resistance.

In environments containing a large amount of, for example, carbon dioxide, inhibitors have been used to prevent corrosion.

However, the use of such inhibitors causes an increase in cost and the inhibitors cannot provide sufficient advantages under high temperature conditions in some cases. Therefore, steel pipes with high corrosion resistance have been recently used without using the inhibitors.

The API standards specify that 12%-Cr martensitic stainless steel with a reduced C content be suitable for line pipes. In recent years, martensitic stainless steel pipes have been used for pipelines for natural gas containing CO2. There is a problem in that such martensitic stainless steel pipes must be preheated or subjected to post-welding heat treatment when they are girth-welded. Furthermore, there is a problem in that welded portions thereof are inferior in toughness.

In order to cope with such problems, for example, Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 9-316611 discloses martensitic stainless steel having a C content of 0.02% or less, an N content of 0.07% or less, an appropriate Cr content, an appropriate Ni content, and an appropriate Mo content. The Cr content, the Ni content, and the Mo content are adjusted in relation to the C content or the C content and the N content and the Ni content and the Mo content are adjusted in relation to the C content and the N content. A martensitic stainless steel pipe manufactured using the steel disclosed in this document is superior in CO2 corrosion resistance, resistance to stress corrosion cracking, weldability, and high-temperature strength and the toughness of a welded section of the pipe is high.

The following new problem has recently arisen: a problem in that cracking occurs in heat-affected zones (hereinafter referred to as HAZs) of martensitic stainless steel pipes which is subject to girth-welding in environments containing CO2.

The martensitic stainless steel pipe is useful in manufacturing a welded structure by welding. Examples of the welded structure include oil or natural gas production facilities such as pipelines manufactured by girth-welding line pipes, chemical plant pipes such as risers and manifolds, and bridges. The welded structure specified herein may be manufactured by welding the martensitic stainless steel pipes of the present invention, welding the martensitic stainless steel pipe of the present invention to another type of steel pipe, or welding the martensitic stainless steel pipe to a member made of another material.

Baofeng Steel Group which established in 2002 had developed rapidly from theinitial Baofeng Steel-melting factory into the current Baofeng Steel Group within just a few years. At present, we are one of the largest stainless steel pipe,Stainless steel seamless pipe manufacturer in China.
